Sharia will become a dominant theme in the 2012 Presidential Elections; the one who speaks the loudest earns the tea party support. I am not sure if we the Americans would gulp down their rhetoric or would have the time to question the veracity of the comments made by the candidates.

The responsibility falls squarely on us, the American Muslims to become contributors and participants in the well being, peace and prosperity of America. Muslims together, we can do it.

We are considering a Sharia conference in every major city in the US, it will be professionally developed with the help of our Imams and Scholars and those who have problems with it. We have to answer every possible question answered in the power point presentation each time a question gets asked.

If you have the will, it’s easy to do it.

Muslims together can work and build a safer and secure America for every one of the 301 Million Americans. This is your conference in your town, organized and managed by you. I hope all of us can call ISNA, CAIR, ICNA and other national organizations to take this project up.

We can do this for under $ 5000.00 per city. I have done over 40 events including the ones over 600 attendees within that budget. We should not expect the national organizations to put this event out, we have to do it on our own with their supervision to standardize the event. You’ll have to raise the funds locally- 100 Muslims $50/each or other combinations will do it. The question we have to ask is, are we willing to do it or find it comfortable to talk about our love of Islam without doing a thing.

I am a volunteer and will be happy to assist anyone anywhere.
Together we can come up with great plans and just do it.

For the starters, I have pulled a few key articles together; there are much better articles out there, Insha Allah, we will gather them all and urge Muslims to post on their sites, the more places it is published, the better off we are.

I further request that you post this on your site or ask those who have a site to post. The more it shows up in search engines, the better off we are collectively.

Over and over you hear it said: If Muslims oppose terrorism, why don't they stand up and say it?

If that has been you, Mike Ghouse ought to be your hero.

It is hard to imagine that anyone has worked harder than the Carrollton resident to demonstrate the peaceful and moderate side of Islam.

And that effort includes personally visiting Dallas' First Baptist Church last Sunday just to put a friendly face on the "evil, evil religion" that the Rev. Robert Jeffress denounced a few weeks before.

"It was wonderful," Ghouse said of the visit. "We were so warmly received."
He hopes a quick chat with Jeffress will be the start of deeper discussion about Islam and the importance of respect between religions.

"I want to have a dialogue with him, not to say he is wrong but to share another point of view," Ghouse said.

The 57-year-old Muslim was born in India and has lived in the United States for 30 years. He owns a small property management firm. But most of his day is devoted to building bridges between people of different faiths.

"It is my passion," he said in his distinctive raspy voice.

He has been a guest a dozen times on Sean Hannity's TV and radio talk shows. "I don't like the way Sean cuts me off, but I have to honor him for giving the American public a semblance of another point of view."

Ghouse said he can understand fear and criticism of Islam because he went through a time of similar feelings. As a teen, he was troubled by passages of the Quran. He called himself an atheist for a while.

But he said deeper study led him to realize the Quran had been purposely mistranslated down through history.

In the Middle Ages, European leaders commissioned a hostile Quran translation to foster warfare against Muslim invaders.

Later, Muslim leaders produced another translation to inflame Muslims against Christians and Jews.

"It was all for politics," he said.
Ghouse said he hopes to present Jeffress with a modern, faithful translation and challenge him to find evil verses.

"If he can, I will convert. I will join his church," Ghouse said. "If he can't, I will call on him to retract his statements and become a peacemaker."

Ghouse acknowledges that deep problems persist within Islam. "Three steps forward, two steps back," he said with a sigh.

And he agrees that mainstream Muslims have not done enough to counter violent images of their faith.

"That is very true," he said. "But part of it is that many Muslims have given up hope that we will ever be heard."

He said repeated denunciations of terrorism seem to fall on deaf ears.

And some efforts have backfired - like the proposed Islamic information center in New York. He said it should be hailed for furthering the moderate Muslim cause.
Instead, it has deepened hostility toward Muslims.

I have been astounded by the amount of anti-Islam propaganda that circulates via e-mail. Tons of it has come my way in the last few weeks.

One theme is that people like Mike Ghouse can't be trusted, that Islam encourages deception.

But Ghouse says actions speak louder than words. And he points to elections in Muslim nations.

More than half of Muslims live in countries with some degree of democracy. And time and time again, Islamist parties are overwhelmingly rejected in favor of secular, mainstream parties.

"The religious parties don't get more than 3 percent of the vote," Ghouse said.
Polls show deep mistrust of Muslims. "But the most important question in those surveys is: 'Do you know anything about Islam?' " Ghouse said. "Most people say no."
What keeps him going is faith in Americans, he said.

"The majority of Americans, if they know the truth, they will change their minds."

The programs, seminars and workshops conducted by the Foundation for Pluralism have become a part of the America Together Foundation. We have come a long way to embrace and accept the otherness of other. No American has to live in fear of the other, nor live in anxieties or discomfort.

The events of September 11, 2001 have unleashed an unprecedented period of global re-thinking of issues in media and religion. Islam has emerged as a major focus of inquiry and debate, but the interaction between contemporary Islam and the media has rarely been addressed. This conference will thus engage a set of questions on the place of Islam within global, regional, national and local media.

If we believe the torrent of popular headlines on Islam today, it seems that only Muslim extremists are talking about their religion, pursuing a project that claims to defend it from “secularized” Western culture. From Bin Laden’s call to jihad to the angry reaction of Muslims to the Danish cartoons of the prophet Muhammad, Muslims are portrayed in the media as irrational followers of a religion adamantly out of step with modernity. In the face of this, and perhaps in order to balance their coverage of Islam, Western journalists, pundits, and others have been asking “where are the moderate Muslims?” But few true moderates have emerged. Instead, some Western media have turned to another extreme: Muslim secularists or “Muslim non-believers”--voices which deserve media attention, but which arguably stand at the opposite fringe, rather than nearer the center of how Islam is lived and understood today.

Muslims, both in the Muslim world and in the diaspora, have found themselves compelled to speak for the ‘real’ Islam and explain its relevance in modernity both to themselves and to non-Muslims. This process is at the same time generating divergent discourses that arguably are already coming to challenge the religious authority of clerical Islam. Today, Muslim men and women, young and old, secularists and Islamists, Westerners and Easterners, gay and straight, rappers and comedians, journalists and scholars, bloggers and televangelists, are changing the conventional pathways of religious discourse and disintegrating the old centers of knowledge production within Islam. In fact, Muslims around the world are taking advantage of new media platforms like the Internet and other forms of conventional media like satellite television, music and film to articulate an arguably ‘pure’ or ‘modern’ Islam. These media have become prime discursive spaces in which Islamic knowledge is contested, reinterpreted, and popularly re-mediated. Given the unprecedented amplification of this inner struggle within Islam, it is imperative to ask questions such as: who speaks for Islam today using what original platforms? Does the pluralization of Muslim voices lead necessarily to innovations in the core of Islamic teachings or is it merely a shift in method to reaffirm a message of orthodoxy? Are these new voices accessible to large numbers of Muslims? And how are contemporary media deployed to facilitate this shift in Islamic knowledge production? Thus, a range of questions dealing with the mediation of Islam and other religions are also coming to the fore.

This international conference will bring together scholars on Islam and contemporary media, media professionals, activists and NGOs to reflect on the implications of these developments. Papers and panels may address, but should not be limited to, the following topics:

The authors should submit an abstract (approximately 250 words) and
biography (approximately 150 words) at the conference website by July
15, 2009. The editorial committee will review the abstracts and respond
by July 31, 2009. The selected authors should then submit papers of
minimum 3000 and maximum 6000 words to the Editorial Board by September
20, 2009. Electronic submission via the conference web page is
preferred. Authors who choose to submit hard copies are responsible for
the timely delivery of their submissions by the same deadlines. The
editorial board will evaluate and ask the authors to revise the papers
(if needed) and resubmit camera ready copies by November 1, 2009. The
conference organizers reserve the right to remove from the proposed
program papers not received by the published deadlines or that fail to
respond to the comments of the editorial board. The accepted papers will
be published at the conference webpage and as conference proceedings.

We would like to edit a book on the issue of the contemporary theories and practices of the Islamic tradition of jihad. The third Islam and Bioethics International Conference (following Haifa University, 2001, and Penn State University, 2006) will take place at a venue belonging to Ankara University: Çolaklı - Antalya, Turkey, on 14-16 April, 2010.

Prof. Berna Arda from Ankara University and Prof. Vardit Rispler-Chaim from the University of Haifa are co-organizers. Call for Submissions for a Special Issue on “Islam, modernity and democracy: theoretical debates and case studies”

Insight Turkey invites manuscripts for its Fall 2009 issue that will explore the debate around the relationship between ‘Islam, modernity and democracy’ with theoretical reflections and analyses of the democratization experiences in the Islamic world, particularly the Middle East. We seek original manuscripts from scholars across the social sciences and humanities, both discipline specific and interdisciplinary, as well as contributions from policy circles. In this special issue, which will be edited by the guest editor Dr. Ahmet Kuru of Columbia University, our goal is to showcase high-quality single case or comparative studies and stimulate a lively debate on the subject.

The topics suitable for inclusion in the special issue include but are not limited to: - theoretical analyses on Islam, modernity and democracy, - the experience of liberalization and democratization in the Middle East, - the role of external actors in democratization: the policies of the European Union and the United States.

Covered by major indexing and abstracting systems and databases Insight Turkey is a refereed academic journal with a policy-oriented perspective. All submissions are subject to Insight Turkey’s editorial policy and must follow the journal’s style guidelines, which can be obtained from the journal’s homepage. Since the journal’s readership comprises specialists and non-specialists, authors should avoid jargon where possible and use a clear and straightforward language that is appealing to both groups.

Insight Turkey welcomes both full articles (5,000-6,000-word essays that present the findings of research or analysis on a relevant contemporary and historical problem or phenomenon) and commentaries (2,500-3,500 word pieces that make a short, provocative argument on an actual topic of interest with policy relevance).

(WASHINGTON DC - June 2, 2009) The Islamic Information Center is proud to announce that the ALIM Convention 2009 will feature an art show and auction of the works of Sadequain provided by the world renowned SADEQUAIN Foundation.

Sadequain was responsible for the renaissance of Islamic Calligraphy in Pakistan. He was a pre-eminent artist cum calligrapher, who elevated Islamic calligraphic art in the region. He claimed his calligraphy was endowed with divine inspiration that added the dimension of space and movement to his work. One of Sadequain's greatest pieces of work was his Sura-e-Rehman series.

Sadequain's Sura-e-Rehman series consists of thirty-one pieces all reflecting a different verse from the sura. Another of Sadequain's calligraphic works was the rendition of the ninety-nine panels of Asma-e-Husna (the beautiful Names of God) that he inscribed on the circular wall of the rotunda, which stands an imposing five stories high in the Indian Institute of Islamic Studies at Delhi.

The ALIM convention is dedicated to coming up with actionable ideas, plans, and initiatives to help the Muslim community locally and abroad. At the conclusion of the convention, attendees will return to their home communities with specific plans of action, and the Islamic Information Center will help to coordinate these nationwide initiatives throughout the year.

The Spiritual and Ethical Foundation of Science and Technology in Islamic Civilization

Muslim scientists and technologists have for centuries pursued their scientific and technological activities within a spiritual and ethical framework. There was a profound reason for their insistence on such a framework. They believed in an epistemology in which unity of science and technology and spiritual knowledge is duly maintained. They defended this belief by appealing to both revelation (wahy) and reason ('aql) or to both religious (naqliy) and intellectual ('aqliy) arguments. By naqliy arguments we mean arguments that are drawn from the Qur'an, the Hadiths, and other transmitted sources. For 'aqliy arguments on the other hand, we mean philosophical and scientific arguments that are assembled for the purpose at hand through the independent exercise of reason. Traditional Muslim Classifications of the Sciences:
Comparative Notes on Qutb al-Din al-Shirazi and Ibn Khaldun

Ibn Khaldun (1332-1406) was born two decades after the death of Qutb al-Din al-Shirazi (1236-1311). This means that we may treat them as contemporaries. Those who know the life history of these two notable and fascinating Muslim intellectuals could find it quite interesting making comparisons and contrasts between them. Ibn Khaldun, an Arab by birth, was a philosopher-historian; Qutb al-Din, who hailed from Shiraz, a city of historic importance in the Persian-speaking world, was a philosopher-scientist. Both traveled extensively in the Muslim world, both as a scholar and as a diplomat, for the two had been patronized by the rulers of their day. In the modern world, both have become famous, mainly because of their original scientific contributions to their respective fields of specialization. Let us first consider the fame of Qutb al-Din. He is well-known today, particularly for his contributions to astronomy and optics. His innovative treatment of planetary motion at the prestigious Maraghah School of Astronomy - the "NASA at Cape Kennedy of his day" - resulted in the world's first successful attempt at the construction of a model of planetary motion for Mercury. Some modern historians of science even claim that Qutb al-Din's astronomical works influenced the later development of astronomy in the West, especially on Copernicus. In optics, Qutb al-Din is remembered for his achievement as the first scientist to have given a qualitatively correct explanation of the cause of the rainbow. Professor Samuel Huntington died at the age of 81 on December 24th 2008. Huntington was Professor of Government at Harvard University and will be remembered as being among the most influential American Political Scientists of the twentieth century. He is best known for his influential and highly controversial "Clash of Civilizations" thesis. No matter, what one's opinion of Huntington's analysis of world events and the contemporary world system, it is necessary to concede that he was a person of tremendous intellect. He was the author of 17 books and more than 90 academic articles. He also served as advisor to Presidents Johnson and Carter. He was something of a prodigy. Eid-al-Adha is also known as Hajj or Bakrid (variations listed below) if you wish to greet Muslims on this day you may say Happy Eid or Eid Mubarak. Eid is festivity. At the end of the annual pilgrimage to Mecca, known as Hajj, Muslims throughout the world celebrate the holiday of Eid-al-Adha (Festival of Sacrifice). This year, Eid-al-Adha will be celebrated on Monday, December 8, 2008. It is about remembering and commemorating the trials and triumphs of Prophet Abraham.

A parent would risk his or her life to protect the child. People in love have the passion to value their beloved's life and are willing to get the bullet and save the life, they are willing to rescue her or him from the freezing lake risking their own life, even strangers do that. It is the willingness to put the life of the loved one’ above one’s own life. Every day our Police officers risk their own lives to protect ours, the firemen and women risk their lives to save a child, a pet or an aged person from a fire; and every day our soldiers put their lives at risk to save fellow soldiers and to save our freedom. Eid-al-Adha is a tradition started by Prophet Abraham.

You feel angry knowing that the world stood by silently when the Jews were put on the train to the gas chambers; you feel anger when the Bosnian Muslims children were given chocolates and told not to worry and go right behind and open gunfire and massacre them; you feel anger when the Canadian general sends faxes upon faxes to the United Nations to send help, while the UN and USA did not want to get involved and 800,000 Rwandans were massacred, they were even announcing on their radio how to torture pregnant women to pull out the babies… It was a difficult documentary to watch, but you must watch and face the world; you have to do your share to clean your own slate of conscience.

The Jewish Community Center in Dallas recently screened a documentary about Anti-Semitism in Europe called, “The Monster among us”, produced and directed by Dallas filmmakers Allen and Cynthia Mondell. Watching this film (as well as other films in the past) and listening to the responses of the audience has confirmed my belief that one of the primary obstacles to peace is simply inadequate communications stemming from the unwillingness to see another point of view.

If you find this article offensive, please clarify with me before you draw your conclusions, it is our obligation to repair the world. Prior to publication of this article my Jewish, Christian and Muslim friends have reviewed it to ensure it meets the intent as close as it can and it is to improve communications and a civil dialogue. The producers of the movie have reviewed and shared their point of view, which is included in the essay verbatim.Muslims should participate in Jewish events and vice-versa. Staying away from each other will not contribute towards peace-making that both communities so deserve. We have to come together without conditions and learn each others concerns and clarify mis-information and together find solutions. If we don’t, the who will?

Anti-Semitism is hate for Jews, and to his credit, the producer acknowledged in his comments that both Muslims and Jews are facing this abuse in Europe. As responsible citizens, we need to stand up against hate towards every one. I cannot have peace if others around me aren't peaceful.

To borrow a sentence from my friend Sheila Musaji “these films are to be viewed as opportunities for dialogue and not to further distance ourselves from the other.” We need to consciously guard ourselves from despair and disorientation and focus on hope and goodness to humanity that includes you and I.

I challenge the Muslim and Jewish community to watch this film together with a focus on just the film and its content, we must carry a civil dialogue and learn to take the jolts, then we would have developed the capacity to embark on finding a solution to the crux of the world problem - security of Jews and hope for the Palestinians, together we have an opportunity to find solutions. I am planning to have a showing of the film with a panel of Jews, Christians, Muslims, Hindus and others, if you wish to attend, please confirm via an email to: confirmattendance@gmail.com . The Middle East Studies Program at California State University, Fresno calls for proposals for pre-organized panels and individual papers for the Program’s inaugural meeting, October 16-18, 2008, in Fresno, California.

Conference Theme:
In academic and popular discourse today, the Middle East has become a primary dimension of our geopolitical-intellectual culture. The global reach of current events has brought the Middle East into direct contact with the West. Much scholarly and professional attention is afforded today to the complex (yet habitually abstracted and simplified) human reality of the peoples of the Middle East, and their contributions to the world, be they in science, religion, literature or art.

One of the primary objects of this conference will be to explore the constructions and contextualizations of the modern Middle East through artistic, scholarly, economic, political, sociological, historical, and philological works and texts. The conference will subsequently examine the politics that underlie their production and dissemination in academia.

Plenary Session/ Panel Discussion: Panel proposals should be submitted by a moderator, inviting three to five presenters to discuss a topic relevant to the conference theme. The topic should be one that would benefit from diverse opinions and open discussion. Panel presentations will be limited to 90 minutes.

The Islamic Cities project is an initiative focused on cities in the Muslim World. As architecture is a medium through which material expression to cultural premises and historical experience are made, the Cities Project aims to reveal the city as a space of cultural encounters.

Cities express the cultural variety, historical richness, aesthetic premises, and pragmatic solutions to daily needs of people through out the world. Some of the questions this exhibition will address are: How has Islam, pre-Islamic culture, geography, historical forces, globalization, and other influences interacted to shape each of the cities? What evidence and insight does the built environment bring to our understanding of each of these peoples, the cultural choices they have made, and the relationship to Islam? Is there sufficient similarities to warrant the use of the term Islamic city? What conclusions if any can be drawn about the encounters between traditional societies with Western and with other Islamic societies?

The exhibit will showcase four Persian cities: Isfahan, Shiraz, Bam and Tehran with photographs and visual documents.

LAW AND LEADERSHIP SUMMER PROGRAM 2008

"KARAMAH: Muslim Women Lawyers for Human Rights" is currently accepting applications for its 6th Annual Law and Leadership Summer Program(LLSP), which will take place from July 14, 2008 to August 1, 2008. The program is an intensive, three week full-time training program in Washington, DC. It requires that young women participants live, study, and work on projects together. We are looking for highly motivated and
dedicated women who have a commitment to Muslim women's rights, and who seek to advance them from within their religion and culture.

The participants will attend intensive and thought-provoking workshopswhich cover a multitude of topics. The program curriculum will cover four over-arching topics: Islamic Jurisprudence; Comparative Law; Leadership Development, and Conflict Resolution.

Islamic Law courses cover Usul al-Fiqh (Principles of Jurisprudence),Quranic Sciences, Hadith Sciences, the Islamic Marriage Contract, the Gender Paradigm of the Quran, and Family Law Codes in the Muslim world.

The main objective of this segment of the Program is to create an understanding of the foundations of the prevailing interpretations of Islamic law and to introduce students to a progressive and socially just and equitable Islamic worldview. We will have classes on core concepts in Islam as well as on women's rights within Islam, focusing specifically on family law issues. In addition to increasing the
participants' literacy in Islamic Jurisprudence, the courses are designed to train participants to think on their own, develop their leadership gifts, and acquire a good grasp of basic areas of Islamic law.

Renowned law professors and attorneys have regularly taught our Comparative Law courses, which demonstrate the complex interactions between the American Legal System and Islamic Law. These courses serve as an important introduction to the way in which the law surrounding Islamic marriage and divorce is becoming an important and complicated part of the American Legal landscape.

The third segment of the program is dedicated to unique and effective classes in Leadership Development. The academic exposure allows participants to identify, analyze, and critique the various forms and techniques of influence and power, which enables them to become effective leaders in all capacities of life. It also allows them to evaluate their own behavior and identify and address existing problems.

In the fourth segment, expert trainers present various scenarios in workshops on conflict-resolution and leadership styles. The exercises and discussion that follow focus on enhancing participants' facilitation skills and developing cultural specific solutions that incorporate alternative leadership possibilities that integrate an Islamic perspective.

The purpose of LLSP is to instill leadership qualities in a core group of women who will lead change in their communities. The program provides them with the basic tools to understand and articulate the guiding principles of Islam. With this knowledge, the students will be able to articulate and defend Muslim women's rights within their ownreligious, cultural and institutional contexts. Armed with adequate
leadership skills and jurisprudential tools they will be able to bring about progressive and peaceful change within their communities.

Islam and Enlightenment

A two-day workshop organised jointly by the Centre for Asian and Middle Eastern Architecture (CAMEA), The University of Adelaide, and the School of Historical Studies, The University of Melbourne.

Traditional scholarship mapped the Enlightenment as a uniquely European experience, but recent scholarship has revealed the eighteenth century as a period of axial change across the world. The relativisation of cultural systems, the unseating of religious certainty, the development of civic publics, and the rapid advance of technological innovation marked the leading European societies of this period. But these developments unfolded within, and were in many ways dependent upon a context of global trade and exchange. Expanding interest in non-European ideas, religions and techniques, the increase in mobility, and ultimately the colonization of societies outside Europe, brought ever greater contact. Nowhere was this more evident than in relation to the Muslim world which overlapped with Europe at its borders and in many areas into which Europeans were moving. The great empires of Islam dominated much of the world at the beginning of the century, and Europeans often built upon long-established Muslim trading networks.

What was the nature of the exchange between these two worlds in transformation? What did the Enlightenment mean to Muslims of the period, and what did Islam mean to the Enlightenment? This workshop will map out directions for developing this rich area of study. Possible topics might include (but are not limited to):

- Muslim travellers in Europe and European travellers in the Muslim world
- The role of intermediary groups and minorities
- Cultural, intellectual and technical borrowings
- Global trade and consumption
- Exchange in mixed and border societies
- Print culture and the public sphere
- The coffee house and secular urban culture
- Leisure gardens and the culture of urban recreation
- Postal systems and the culture of correspondence
- Gender issues in transforming urbanity
- Philosophical challenges and continuities
- Religious challenges and continuities
- Shared and parallel modernities

While many consider religion to be a major source of violence in the world, many scholars and activists also argue that religions offer the profoundest sources for peacemaking and peacebuilding. This is because religion speaks to the soul, and thus can provide the faithful with powerful motivators to commit to peace. But due to its potential for exclusive claims to truth, mobilising religion for peacemaking purposes must be managed skilfully and wisely.

Interfaith dialogue and the embracing of diversity through the lenses of faith can be a formidable challenge, a feeling of "crossing boundaries." Such sentiments, incongruously, can also apply to intra-faith relations, that is, relations between different sects or orientations within a faith tradition. However, the act of "crossing boundaries," whether they be those of interfaith or those of intra-faith, can be the strategic points of demarcation for the release of energies for good and for evil. Mobilising religion for peacemaking is thus an urgent challenge facing humanity today, at both an inter-faith and intra-faith level.

The 37th Annual Conference of the Association of Muslim Social Scientists of North America aims to explore this topic in relation to Islam, Muslims and a globalised world. What are Islam’s resources for "crossing boundaries" and for cultivating faith, diversity and dialogue? How do Muslims view these concepts? Who are the activists working both for, and against, faith, diversity and dialogue?

To this end, papers are solicited from Muslims and non-Muslims that might speak to the following sub-themes:

• Theoretical Reflections on Inter- and Intra-faith Dialogue
• Studies of Relevant Muslim Intellectual Heritages
• Empirical Studies of Muslim Peacemaking Activists
• Case Studies of Inter- or Intra-faith Conflict or Conflict Resolution
• Hermeneutical Studies of the Qur’an in Relation to Faith, Diversity and Dialogue
• The Media’s Role in Mobilizing Dialogue on Faith and Diversity
• Politics of Religious Identity
• Religion and the Politics of Development and Humanitarian Aid
• The Role of Religion in Promoting World Peace
• The Politics of Cultural Boundaries: Assimilation, Integration & Resistance
• The Impact of War and Conflict on Women’s Role in Society
• Women as Soldiers
• The Role of Women in Peacebuilding Efforts
• Women as Refugees

Abstracts (250 words) are due by May 15, 2008. Abstracts will be evaluated according to the following categories: originality of theme, clear methodology, clarity and relevance of the proposal to the conference theme, and sound academic scholarship. Accepted proposals will be announced within 30 days. Final papers must be submitted by September 30, 2008 to be included in the conference program. If completed papers are not in by the due date, they will not be included in the conference.
